Caorle

HOW TO FEEL AT HOME

Caorle, located in the Upper Adriatic between Trieste and Venice, is the tourist center where the sea and the beach marry history and culture. Born in the first millennium BC with the first Paleovenetian settlements, Caorle continues its history in Roman times as a natural supply port for the nearby Julia Concordia. The raids of King Attila in Italy induced the people of Veneto and Friuli to take refuge in these shores and it seems to be 452 AD. the most certain date of his birth.

Caorle today presents a picturesque landscape both from the land and from the sea, where the cylindrical bell tower of 1100 and the ancient Romanesque cathedral stand out, embraced by an enchanting cliff and where the large fishing village extends with its houses in bright pastel colors, with its calli and sunny campielli, attractive and original features that already made the Venetian coast famous. The coast of Caorle, Porto S. Margherita and Duna Verde with its 15 kilometers of beach that slopes gently towards the sea, unites sea and sand in a single yellow-blue line where the needs of the guest are met in the best possible way with sunbeds and umbrellas, with cabins and showers, with first aid and refreshment posts.

Fishing is an ancient tradition in Carole and boasts one of the largest fishing fleets in the Upper Adriatic. The relationship with seafarers opens up horizons on unsuspected ways of life and leads to the knowledge of adventures and misadventures that fascinate like legends because they are handed down from father to son and whose origins are lost in the mists of time. The vocation of Caorle as an ancient fishing port, could not miss the pleasure boating that finds in Porto Santa Margherita and in the Orologio Village the large docks capable of hosting thousands and thousands of boats.

The lagoon and the valleys are the great heritage of Caorle. There are thousands of hectares of cataletti and placid expanses of water where nature has remained uncontaminated. Here and there there are the casoni, the ancient cane houses of the fishermen of the lagoon which constitute a unique historical and architectural testimony.

It is not easy to describe nature where the only noise is that of oars or birds in flight as Ernest Hemingway did, who dedicated some of his most beautiful pages from his book “Beyond the river among the trees” here.
